Songkran Parade in Samut Prakan

11 Apr

I think only in Amazing Thailand would they put on a Songkran Parade the morning after a massacre. But that is what they are doing now in Samut Prakan.

At least 15 if not more died in bloody street battles last night between the Thai army and red shirt protesters in Bangkok. Despite the sombre mood, Samut Prakan Governor was here this morning at 8.30 am at the start of the Songkran Parade.

The two hour long parade started at The Erawan Museum and first made it’s way north up Sukhumwit to Samrong. Here it did a u-turn before heading south towards Paknam.

These are pictures that I took of the parade as it made it’s way through Paknam. Small crowds but plenty of big smiles. Not sure if many people were really in the mood after at least one of our own was killed last night.

The parade is now on it’s way to Ancient Siam where I am now waiting for them to arrive.
