A popular Beach resort for Bangkok people is Bangsaen Beach in Chonburi. It is the closest beach to Bangkok as it is only about an hour or so away. However, it also marks the spot where mangrove forests become beaches for the first time. So, not exactly pristine sand and water.

The majority of people here are Thai as most foreign tourists will skip this resort and go further south to Pattaya or Rayong. But, I think it is worth a visit. If anything, to see how Thais do their beach holidays! Remember, if you go swimming here, then please don’t wear speedos! Thai people usually swim in their clothes.

Another difference is that Thai people like their deckchairs in the shade and so at the top of the beach there is something that looks like an umbrella city. No sunbathing here. It is actually too hot to sunbathe and it is much better to sit on a deckchair and eat your lunch.

Many people come here as a day trip from Bangkok. But there are also bungalows and guesthouses along this stretch of road. You can rent bicycles and there are also songtaews going up and down this road. I think plenty to do for a long weekend.

I have been there in 1997. Thank you for the pictures. It reminds me of the good old days.
