Walkabout Around Yellow Shirt Camp

30 Jan

Early this morning I went for a walk around the protest sites for the Thai Patriot Network and the Yellow Shirts.

The protesters have set up camp around Government House in Bangkok. During previous protests the PAD occupied Government House. It is possible that they might do this again.

The TPN have been protesting the longest. They occupy Phitsanulok Road. This is their stage. Not so many of them.

This road has many tents and also soup kitchens. I was offered breakfast several times.

Monks of the Santi Asoke Buddhist sect receiving alms at protest site on Phitsanulok Road. Notice their robes are dark brown. At the back of the line are nuns.

A section of Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue is also closed. But one lane in front of Government House has razor wire to protect the entrance.

This road is for the PAD. About 500 Yellow Shirts here at their stage built in the middle of the royal avenue. As I arrived the national anthem started to play. The MC told them to sing loud enough for the Cambodians to hear.

This last picture is from the same spot but looking north. As you can see, not really enough protesters to justify the closure of roads. At the moment no-one knows how long they will stay or whether more will join them.
