PHOTOS: Wat Dhamma Mongkol

13 Aug

Today I was exploring the new stretch of the skytrain that goes south of Bangkok. From BTS Punnawithi I spotted this impressive temple. It is the 95 meter high Wat Dhamma Mongkhol. There are some great views from up top. There is also a large Buddha image made from jade. From the skytrain take Exit 1 and walk a short distance towards Bangkok to Soi 101. A motorcycle taxi from here to the temple is 15 Baht. Coming back there is a Subaru (oversized Tuk Tuk) which costs 10 Baht each.

PHOTOS: Ancient Siam in Samut Prakan

12 Aug

A great place to spend the day is Ancient Siam in Samut Prakan. Admission price is 400 Baht which includes a bicycle. You need that as the park is massive. If you don’t have time to visit all of Thailand then this place is the next best thing.

PHOTOS: Boat Trip on Phra Khanong Canal

07 Aug

A boat ride is always a great way to explore a riverside community. I took this passenger boat from Wat Pak Bo to Wat Mahabut along the Phra Khanong canal. It only cost 20 Baht.

PHOTOS: Wat Pak Bo Canalside Community

07 Aug

I came to Wat Pak Bo looking for a riverside market that I saw mentioned on a Thai forum. But it looks like it is not here any more. Anyway the riverside community here is interesting. A mixture of Buddhists and Muslims. A good walkway with plenty of bridges at regular intervals. I think I will bring my bicycle back to explore more. We parked the car at Soi 35 on On Nut.

PHOTOS: Rapee Day in Samut Prakan

07 Aug

Today is Rapee Day. At courthouses around Thailand wreath laying ceremonies took place. I took these pictures at Samut Prakan Provincial Courthouse. Prince Rapee Pattanasak is the father of Thailand’s modern legal system. He died on 7 August 1920.

Drunkard Fried Mama Noodles

P2095

Apparently this spicy stirfried noodle dish, called pad kee-mao in Thai, is good for hangovers.
