Vegetarian Food at Racha Market
This is a selection of some of the vegetarian food on offer at Racha Market in Samut Prakan. As you can see it all looks very delicious and I’m very excited about eating everything over the next week or so of the Vegetarian Festival.
Buying Vegetarian for Breakfast
The Vegetarian Festival in Thailand has started and I’m now buying vegan for every meal. Luckily plenty of stalls with yellow flags near my house.
Students making merit at the temple on Wan Phra
Today is Wan Phra which is the Buddhist version of a Sunday for Christians. As it is set by the phases of the moon, it is on a different day each week. Normally monks go out each day to collect alms but on Wan Phra, Buddhists go to the temple early in the morning. A group of students from my school go to a local temple before school on Wan Phra every week. These are some pictures taken this morning. The students buy prepared food at the temple which they put in alms bowls. They also buy flowers which is offered to the Buddha image. Finally they buy a bird which they release from it’s cage.
Inviting the 9 Gods
The Vegetarian Festival officially started this afternoon with the ceremony to invite the 9 Gods down from heaven. They will stay here for 9 days so people try to be good by eating a strict vegetarian meal.
Grace having fun riding around Suan Rot Fai
I think Nong Grace is having so much fun here that I think we will be spending all day at Suan Rot Fai. This is a great park for cycling and to have a picnic. There is also a play area and butterfly garden. Perfect for families.
Taking the bicycles & Grace on the Skytrain
This morning I’m taking Nong Grace on the Sky Train. This is her first time. An added complication is that we are both taking our bicycles. But it is going smoothly so far. At BTS Bearing there is a lift that took us up to the ticket office and then another to the platform. It is a terminal station so it was empty when we got on. Now it is full and we cannot see our bikes. We are on our way to Suan Rot Fai in Bangkok.
