PHOTOS: Bangkok Treehouse

01 Oct

This morning we went to take a look at the Bangkok Treehouse which is a new riverside hotel. They are building this green hotel in an area which is called the “lungs of Bangkok”. They have some really exciting ideas. Can’t wait to see once it’s finished.

Students making merit at the temple on Wan Phra

27 Sep

Today is Wan Phra which is the Buddhist version of a Sunday for Christians. As it is set by the phases of the moon, it is on a different day each week. Normally monks go out each day to collect alms but on Wan Phra, Buddhists go to the temple early in the morning. A group of students from my school go to a local temple before school on Wan Phra every week. These are some pictures taken this morning. The students buy prepared food at the temple which they put in alms bowls. They also buy flowers which is offered to the Buddha image. Finally they buy a bird which they release from it’s cage.

Grace having fun riding around Suan Rot Fai

25 Sep

I think Nong Grace is having so much fun here that I think we will be spending all day at Suan Rot Fai. This is a great park for cycling and to have a picnic. There is also a play area and butterfly garden. Perfect for families.

Taking the bicycles & Grace on the Skytrain

25 Sep

This morning I’m taking Nong Grace on the Sky Train. This is her first time. An added complication is that we are both taking our bicycles. But it is going smoothly so far. At BTS Bearing there is a lift that took us up to the ticket office and then another to the platform. It is a terminal station so it was empty when we got on. Now it is full and we cannot see our bikes. We are on our way to Suan Rot Fai in Bangkok.

Cycle Trip with Live Mapping

24 Sep

This afternoon I went on a cycle ride to test out a new iPhone app that I had bought called Cyclemeter. I have 3 or 4 of these apps now but what attracted me to this one is that it creates a live map which people could follow from links I posted on twitter and Facebook. These are some of the pictures from the trip. About half way I got a puncture but luckily it happened near a repair shop. See the final map: http://j.mp/nWk5nC
